HASTINGS, Neb. – 100+ degree heat index temps are expected and likely in much of the central and eastern portion of the state Tuesday and Wednesday. 

The National Weather Service in Hastings and Omaha have issued a Heat Advisory for Central to Northeast Nebraska from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The advisory stretches as far west as North Platte, and east to the Iowa-Nebraska border, into Iowa. 

Southeastern Nebraska into northeastern Kansas is in an Excessive Heat Warning from 12 p.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Heat Index temperatures could make it feel as hot as 111 degrees and areas near Lincoln and Omaha. 

Extreme temperatures during each day are expected to be in effect from noon to 6 p.m. before they subside for the evening.

 Officials recommend avoiding excessive heat for long amounts of consecutive time outdoors, as long exposure could result in heat-related illnesses. 

Severe weather is also possible across the same heat-affected area Tuesday night.
