Fire damages village water tower

VENANGO -- A maintenance operation resulted in a fire that damaged the water tower in Venango July 10. The village will be relying on a secondary well while repairs are done.

VENANGO -- On July 10, four fire departments responded to a report of the Venango water tower on fire. 

Venango Volunteer Fire Department Chief Steve Tucker said the call came in about 10 a.m. When his department arrived at the scene, flames there were showing.He said a crew from Texas were contracted to do some maintenance on the water tower.  The fire was ignited with a worker using a torch to cut the frame and it spread to a wood structure at the base of the tower.

The water tower was shut down and the village is using a second well as a contingency.
