MADISON - A northeast Nebraska teacher is being accused of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student.

A warrant was issued Monday for the arrest of 29-year-old Nixel Ortiz.

The middle school English language and enrichment teacher is accused of a felony count of sexual abuse by a school employee.

According to court documents, an investigation into Ortiz began after she told another teacher of a sexual encounter between Ortiz and the student earlier this month.

Investigators say Ortiz told them the incident happened at her apartment after a graduation party. The alleged victim in the case is 18 years old.

Ortiz could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Her first court appearance hasn't been scheduled.
