LINCOLN, Neb. — The University of Nebraska is moving forward quickly in selecting its new athletic director.

National media outlets, including ESPN college football reporter Pete Thamel, reported Wednesday morning that Nebraska will hire Troy Dannen as AD. Dannen replaces Trev Alberts, who shocked NU seven days ago by leaving for Texas A&M.

Dannen has served as AD at the University of Washington since October. Before joining the Huskies, he was athletic director at Tulane University from 2015-23. Prior to his stop in New Orleans, Dannen was the athletic director at the University of Northern Iowa from 2008-15. He is a UNI graduate and also worked as the Iowa High School Athletic Union’s Executive Director for seven years.

According to Thamel, Nebraska is finalizing a six-year deal with Dannen.

The news broke while the Nebraska Board of Regents was in a closed session discussing the possible selection of a priority candidate for university president.
