Large grass fire in northeast North Platte prompts evacuations

A grass fire broke out early Wednesday afternoon in northeast North Platte. The fire was so severe that the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office ordered evacuations for the Calvary Hills Subdivision and Thunderhead Road.

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A grass fire broke out early Wednesday afternoon in northeast North Platte. The fire was so severe that the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office ordered evacuations for the Calvary Hills Subdivision and Thunderhead Road.

Additionally, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office requested the public avoid North Twin Lakes Road and Hall School Road as emergency crews battled the fire.

Nearly 10 fire trucks and a handful of law enforcement officers are on the scene, including deputies with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol, fire crews with the North Platte Fire Department, Sutherland Fire and Rescue Unit, and the Stapleton Volunteer Fire Department.

According to the North Platte Police Department, the North Platte Salvation Army has opened an emergency shelter at their facility to assist evacuees.
