PCSO investigates grain bin incident that killed Humphrey man

Authorities said they found an 81-year-old man dead in a grain bin near Lindsay on Tuesday.

LINDSAY, Neb. -- Authorities said they found an 81-year-old man dead in a grain bin near Lindsay on Tuesday. 

The Platte County Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday around 6:30 p.m., deputies were called to a farm located about four miles east of Lindsay, on Highway 91, for a man trapped in a grain bin. 

PCSO said that both Lindsay Fire and Rescue and Humphrey Fire and Rescue responded to the scene deploying their Grain Bin Entrapment Teams.

Authorities notified a LifeNet medical helicopter and it was placed on standby. 

The victim was identified as 81-year-old William Babel of Humphrey.

Babel was pronounced dead on arrival. The grain bin was partially emptied to recover Babel. 

The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
