Body found in canal that dumps into Platte River

Authorities in  Platte County said they are investigating a possible drowning where a person's body was found in the Platte River.

COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Authorities in Platte County said they are investigating a possible drowning where a person's body was found in the Platte River. 

On Aug. 15 around 5:15 p.m., PCSO deputies were dispatched to the Loup Power Tailrace Park for a possible drowning. 

Officials said the reporting party saw the body in the water, where the canal dumps into the Platte River. 

PCSO said the Platte County Dive and Rescue Team responded to the scene where they were able to successfully recover the body. 

Columbus Fire and Rescue also responded to the scene and helped with the recovery. 

PCSO said they are actively working on positively identifying the person who died. 

An autopsy will be done to help in determining the cause of death. 

The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office.
