SHELBY, Neb. -- Six people were hospitalized after a lightning strike at the construction site of a new grain elevator.

On Friday morning, Shelby Fire and Shelby Fire and Rescue were called to the east Central Valley Ag elevator being built in Shelby after reports of a lightning strike.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office also responded to the scene, while Rising City Rescue and Osceola Rescue were called for mutual aid. 

According to Shelby Fire Chief Jon Eller, six employees for McPherson Concrete were transported to Annie Jeffrey Hospital in Osceola with non-life-threatening injuries.
