COLUMBUS, Neb. -- The City of Columbus said there will be work starting on turf replacement for their track and field.

Work will start on Pawnee Park's Memorial Stadium starting on June 19, so the track and field will be closed.

In the press release, the city said that the entrance gates to the track will be locked and using the area is prohibited.

Construction at the field is expected to last six-to-eight weeks.

City of Columbus Public Property Director Doug Moore said that the old turf will be removed and some of it will be stored in the football field parking lot.

The old turf will be available until July 6 for anyone that wants it - it is a first-come, first-serve basis.

After July 9, it will be hauled away for disposal.

Moore said the installation of the new turf will start around July 10, with the staging for construction in the football field parking lot.

"We're looking forward to 2023 football season on the new turf," Moore said.
