Inmate dies while serving time for Platte County conviction

An inmate that was previously convicted in Platte County was recently pronounced dead.

TECUMSEH, Neb. -- An inmate that was previously convicted in Platte County was recently pronounced dead.

Officials said 72-year-old Michael Bedel died at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) on Monday.

According to court documents, Bedel was serving a 25- to 30-year sentence that started on Sept. 17, 2010. He was reportedly convicted of first-degree and third-degree sexual assault in Platte County.

Officials said they have not identified a cause of death at this time but Bedel was previously being treated for a medical condition before his death.
