Ahrens & Leeling Strike Gold in Omaha

OMAHA – A Sidney duo capitalized on their opportunities in Omaha this week. Juniors Chloe Ahens and Karsyn Leeling each earned a pair of gold medals at the NSAA State Track and Field Championships at Omaha Burke High School. The pair accounted for every Sidney point to lead the Sidney girls’ team to a fifth-place finish.
Chloe Ahrens swept the Hurdle events, edging Seward’s Kelsey Miller to win the 100 Meter Hurdles in a time of :14.78. Then ran the 300 Meter Hurdles in :45.13 to break the tape ahead of Adams Central’s Kaitlyn Mousel to take the gold.
Karsyn Leeling didn’t sweep the jumping events in Omaha, but came awfully close. Leeling started her medal barrage on Wednesday morning by taking second in the Long Jump with a leap of 17’ 5.25”. Thursday morning, she cleared 5’8” on her second attempt in the High Jump to capture her first gold medal of the meet. Leeling followed that up by winning the Triple Jump with a leap of 37'2.5".
Isak Doty was a triple medal winner for the boys. Doty took fourth in the 100 Meter Dash in a time of :10.99 and also placed fourth in the 200 Meter Dash in :22.27. He added a third medal in the 400 Meter by running :50.65 to finish seventh. The junior teamed up with freshman Lance Holly, senior Jacob Dowse, and sophomore Landon Riddle to capture fifth place in the 4x100 Meter Relay.
Other medal performances for the Red Raiders, Jacob Dowse cleared 6’2” in the High Jump to finish fifth and Landon Riddle leaped 20' 10.75" in the Long Jump to take seventh.
