Woman arrested by CPD for DUI, drug violations

The Columbus Police Department arrested a 29-year-old woman for a DUI as well as drug violations on Tuesday.

COLUMBUS, Neb. -- The Columbus Police Department arrested a 29-year-old woman for a DUI as well as drug violations on Tuesday.

On Apr. 4 around 11:59 p.m., CPD officers said they responded to a welfare check for a person, Valeria Rath, who appeared to be passed out at the wheel near Days Inn & Suites in Columbus. 

CPD Capt. Doug Molczyk said that when officers arrived they made contact with Rath, who was unresponsive while she was in the driver's seat.

Molczyk said that a DUI investigating was done, and it determined that Rath was suspected to be under the influence of a controlled substance. 

He said that a drug investigation was done at the same time with the help of CPD K9 Eros. 

"The search of the vehicle led to the seizure of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl, as well as other drugs," Molczyk said. 

Rath was taken into custody and lodged at the Platte County Detention Center for a DUI and drug violations.
