COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Authorities in Columbus say that a man who was on the mend following a car accident has died.

The Columbus Police Department announced Saturday that 81-year-old Karl Wlaschin, who was involved in a car accident earlier this week, died Friday afternoon.

"We delayed our release out of respect for the family, allowing them to make notifications," Molczyk said. "Our sympathy goes out to the family."

Wlaschin had been involved in a car accident on Monday, March 20, where his vehicle had flipped on its top.

When authorities arrived, they said that Wlaschin was lying motionless and not breathing.

He had been taken to a hospital in Lincoln for further treatment of his injuries.

CPD said that there have been no charges filed at this time in regard to the accident.
