COLUMBUS, Neb. -- A damaged water main in Columbus was fixed after leaving an area without water for a couple of hours on Saturday.

The City of Columbus Public Works Director Chuck Sliva said a private boring contractor hit a 12-inch water main Saturday afternoon while doing some work in front of CVS Pharmacy, 2307 23rd St. Anyone that was in a 10-block radius of 23rd Ave. to about 33rd Ave. experienced either low water pressure or no water at all.

Officials said the water main was fixed later Saturday night. They are investigating how the water main was hit because it had reportedly been properly marked off before work had started but was still somehow damaged.

"Residents and businesses in the area of the shutdown may notice some air and discolored water for a short time," Sliva said. "Run and flush cold water and the water will clear up."
