HASTINGS, Neb. - If it didn't already feel like the dead of winter with all the snow on the ground, it certainly will over the next few days.

The National Weather Service is warning of extreme wind chills taking over the area starting on Saturday. Wind chill values are expected to dip below zero at noon and could stay sub-zero until Wednesday afternoon.

The NWS issued a Wind Chill Advisory for the region from 7:00 PM Saturday through 9:00 AM Sunday. Wind chills could get as low as -25 during the advisory period.

The NWS is also advising that a light freezing drizzle is possible for Grand Island and some areas to the north of Hall County Friday night and Saturday morning.

But the main concern for the whole area is extreme cold. Officials encourage people to take proper precautions before going outside because frostbite could occur in as little as 30 minutes.
