GENOA, Neb. -- A Kansas man is dead after drowning in a lake near Genoa Saturday. 

Nance County Sheriff's Officials said the drowning happened at a private lake. 

The victim was identified as 79-year-old Wayne Mathias. 

Witnesses told authorities that Mathias was swimming about 100 feet from shore when they heard him call for help before vanishing underwater. 

Law enforcement and residents searched the lake. Ultimately, Mathias' body was located by the Platte County Dive Team.
