PLATTE COUNTY -- The Platte County Sheriff’s Office announced they will be participating in the Nationwide “Speeding Prevention Mobilization” effort being conducted from July 20th through August 14th.

Deputies will be working overtime during the period, where the primary objective is to slow down speeding motorists.

“It’s no secret that speeding continues to be a major factor in both injury and fatal crashes,” said a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said during 2020, 564 people were injured or killed in speeding-related crashes on Nebraska roadways.

“This is just one more way law enforcement can help get the point across to drivers to slow down," said Sheriff's Office. "Unfortunately for some, it may be a costly one.”

Officials said the funding for the enforcement effort is being provided through a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
