COLUMBUS, Neb. -- A retirement community in Platte County celebrated Flag Day on Tuesday.

The Prairie Village Retirement Community in Columbus held a special ceremony for the raising of the community's new flag.

The village moved their old flag pole closer to the building and decided to raise their new flag on Tuesday, to commemorate Flag Day.

A special ceremony was thrown along with the American Legion Reps and Choir in attendance.

Jerry Lundbeck, the President of the Resident Council at Prairie Village Retirement Community, explained the importance of the ceremony.

"It's to remind everyone, not just us at the facility, of the liberties we do have in America. Those that we fought for, so many times," said Lundbeck.

Flag Day celebrates the adoption of the American flag by the resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

It has been celebrated in America for over 100 years and occurs every June 14th.
