MONROE, Neb. -- Multiple controlled burns got out of control in Platte County on Tuesday.

There were three reported incidents in Platte Center and another in Monroe, with Tuesday's winds gusting the permitted fires into larger grassy areas and causing bigger fires.

The Monroe Fire Department battled a fire from approximately 8:00 p.m. until after 10:00 p.m.

Much of the state remains in a red flag warning, meaning any fires that ignite may spread rapidly and exhibit extreme fire behavior.

Officials ask everyone to use extreme caution if engaging in activities that could result in fire ignition.
