COLUMBUS, Neb. -- One person is in custody after a reported burglary in rural Columbus on Monday afternoon.

Deputies with the Platte County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the residence shortly before 1:00 p.m. for reports of a burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, deputies entered the property and approached the residence. As they approached the residence a man exited the residence with his hands up. The subject, identified as Bradley Kielian, 50 from Silver Creek, was detained.

Deputies requested and were assisted by the Columbus Police Department’s K-9 unit, who conducted a thorough search of the residence and property. No further assailants were located.

The Sheriff's Office says evidence obtained in the subsequent investigation revealed that Kielian was actively in the process of burglarizing the residence at the time of deputies' arrival.

Kielian was placed under arrest and transported to the Platte County Detention Facility where he was housed on the charges of Burglary, Criminal Mischief, and 1st Degree Criminal Trespass.

Kielian remains in custody on a $50,000 10% cash bond.

This incident remains under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff’s Office.
