COLUMBUS, Neb. -- Drivers in Columbus may need to seek alternate routes this spring.

In a press release issued Friday, the City of Columbus said that drivers and pedestrians on 48th Avenue between 27th Street to 34th Street will experience temporary lane and sidewalk closures for concrete replacement beginning on March 1st.

The first phase will close the northbound through lane, in which the center turn lane will be the temporary northbound lane, and the southbound lane will remain. Street intersections on the east side will be closed to through traffic during construction.

Upon completion of the northbound through lane estimated to be in early April 2022, the second phase will result in the southbound through lane closed, in which the center turn lane will be the temporary southbound lane, and the northbound lane will remain.

Street intersections on the west side of 48th Avenue in this phase will be closed to through traffic during this phase of construction.

The work on both phases is scheduled to be complete by the end of May 2022, pending weather and site conditions.
