Nebraska lawmakers have given the initial green light to a move calling for a possible rewrite of the United States Constitution.

Right now 15 states have approved plans for a Constitutional Convention, 34 states are needed.

This week by a vote of 32-10 state senators said yes but opponents—concerned a convention could radically change the Constitution— have made it clear the fight is far from over.

Those backing the re-write point to, among other things, the country's 30 trillion dollar debt, as proof that some changes to the Constitution are needed.

It appears that when lawmakers tackle this issue again opponents will try to kill the convention talk with a filibuster.

That means supporters of the Constitutional Convention would need 33 votes.

If approved by the Unicameral, the issue would go to the voters in November.
