SIDNEY, Neb. — Sidney High School senior Aubrey Campbell will continue her academic and athletic career at Peru State College, committing to the Bobcats’ women’s golf program.

Campbell earned the opportunity after a strong showing at the Class B district meet last fall in Nebraska City, where she shot an 87 and finished in the top 10. It was there she connected with Peru State head coach Sue Owen, who served as her scorekeeper during the tournament.

“After the golf meet, she asked me to come to Peru,” Campbell said. “At first I was like, ‘there’s no way I’m going to be driving six hours to go to college.’ I gave it a little more thought and I think this was the best fit for me. I’m excited to pursue more golf.”

Campbell said the decision ultimately came down to her passion for the sport and the support system that helped her reach this point.

“A lot of support helped me get to where I am today,” she said. “I just love golf. It gives me independence. I feel like not only continuing my education, but continuing golf I would like a lot.”

Peru State was Campbell’s lone offer, but she said the location and campus environment made it an easy choice.

“The school is up by Lincoln and Omaha,” she said. “I feel like I’ll have a lot of fun.”

Campbell plans to study pre-pharmacy while competing for the Bobcats.

She was part of a Sidney girls golf team that placed 11th at the state tournament last fall.
