COLUMBUS - Just in time for the holiday season, the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation got a large gift: A $31,000 grant.

It comes from the Wisconsin-based Holoubek Family Foundation, whom the hospital said they've worked with for 10 years.

“We proposed to them projects which will benefit children and families, which is their main focus,” CCHF executive director Carol Keller said.

Among the programs the grant will go toward is Wiggles and Giggles Therapy for Kids.

Director Jill Zaruba said the ever-changing insurance model can make it difficult for families to have reimbursement options.

“They may not have coverage through an insurance plan or they may be being denied by Nebraska state medicaid for therapy," Zaruba said.  "In those instances, then this money will come into play to help provide therapy.”

The grant will also go toward the Healthy Families program, which works with families to prevent child abuse and neglect; and an AccuVein Vein Finder for pediatric patients in the Emergency Department.

The CCH Foundation said these are just the latest projects Terri and Verne Holoubek have helped them with.  Even though the Holoubeks live in Wisconsin, Keller said they're from Nebraska and that they remain loyal to the area.

"They can choose to support anywhere, but they have chosen to support Columbus, Nebraska in an area that’s kind of near and dear to their hearts," Keller said.
