Freezing rain makes for slick Thanksgiving

Officials in Madison County urged residents to stay off the roads.

NORFOLK - Mother Nature served up some ice with Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday.

Freezing rain Thursday caused the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for much of eastern Nebraska.

NWS forecasters said that up to a tenth of an inch of ice could possibly accumulate overnight.

Highway conditions deteriorated so quickly that the Madison County Sheriff advised residents against travel. Sheriff's officials reported multiple vehicles in ditches and jackknifed semis.

The winter weather advisory expires at 9 a.m. Friday.
