NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - Authorities are investigating after a bomb threat was reported at North Platte High School Monday morning.

According to North Platte Public Schools Communications Director Brandon Petersen, the school evacuated to Bauer Field at 9:36 a.m due to a threatening phone call. Once all students and staff were accounted for, the school held a controlled release by grade level from the football field beginning at 10:15 a.m.

Classes were dismissed for the day.

Students were escorted to the south side of the football field. Parents were directed to pick up their children along A Street between Grant and Reynolds.

According to Sgt. Johnson with the North Platte Police Department, authorities confirmed the threat was not an automated call — it came directly into the high school. A School Resource Officer was on campus when the call came in and was immediately notified as the suspect communicated with the school.

The FBI, Nebraska State Patrol, and North Platte Police were all on scene. A Nebraska State Patrol bomb-sniffing dog was also called in to assist. Law enforcement and district administration were on hand throughout the incident, with all district safety protocols followed.

The school’s parking lot remained closed until the threat was completely eliminated.

At 3:15 p.m., law enforcement finished a thorough search of the premises and found nothing of concern. Students were allowed back on campus to retrieve belongings and their vehicles.

This is an active investigation.
