CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- The Sentinel Task Force held a ribbon cutting Wednesday morning to celebrate the opening of a new facility at the F.E. Warren Air Force Base.

The event marked the completion of the first military construction project for the Sentinel Intercontinental Ballistic Missile program.

Steve Kravitzky, Sentinel Task Force Detachment 10 Director, said: “The space will facilitate an efficient and effective collaborative environment for our collective team while we take on one of the most challenging efforts of our careers – the retirement of the minuteman weapons system and the deployment of the sentinel weapons system.”

Gen. William Rogers said this is a key initiative in modernizing the country's strategic capabilities.

“The work done at places like F.E. Warren is the foundation for our nation’s defense, it is our true strategic detterence,” he said. “The ICBM mission is where it all starts, and the work here is absolutely critical.”

The facility houses Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIF), secret spaces, top secret spaces, and several conference rooms and offices.

The SCIFs and secret spaces are designed for authorized personnel to discuss classified information in a secured, sound proofed, and RF protected space.

Capt. Stephen Collier, Public Affairs Officer, said, “We take our nation’s secrects very seriously, and this is the lengths that the Air Force goes to protect those secrets.”

There is also a Secret Collateral Conference room that will be at the center of the operations where they will monitor what is happening in the missile field including weather patterns and any emergencies that may arise.

“This is the largest military effort we’ve ever done,” said Maj. Gen. Colin J. Connor. “The walls and the roof that you’re sitting in now will be the nerve center. Everything that occurs both on base and in Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado and the missile field in the 90th missile wing will be because of this building right here.”
