FALLS CITY – Firefighters report no injuries in a Friday house fire where interior crews found heavy smoke and flames.

A press release says Merle and Sara Veigel has just returned home after being away less than two hours and found smoke detectors going off and the house full of smoke.

Two interior fire crews entered through the garage and found flames and heavy smoke on portions of the first floor.

Fire suppression efforts were supported by a hydrant located two blocks away, exhaust fans and a thermal camera.

Twenty five firefighters responded and crews were on scene at 1616 Highland Ave. from 6 to 11 p.m.

Falls City police report damage to a police vehicle and fire truck in an accident Friday at 28th Street and Highland Avenue.

A police report says the fire truck was attempting to make a tight turn but a portion of the rear of the truck scraped into a police vehicle that was stopped near the curb with its lights on.

Damages are estimated below reportable levels.
