KEARNEY, Neb. — Sidney graduates Talissa Tanquary and Mitchell Deer helped lead the University of Nebraska-Kearney track and field teams to multiple top performances this weekend at the Ichabod Invitational and the Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic in Kansas.

Tanquary, a sophomore, was part of a school-record performance in the women’s distance medley relay at the Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas. The quartet of Brynn Hirschfeld, Tanquary, Charis Robinson and Kassidy Stuckey finished third in 11 minutes, 50 seconds, breaking the previous UNK record of 11:53.01 set at last year’s MIAA Championships.

The new mark ranks 22nd nationally and third in the MIAA this season.

Meanwhile, Deer, a senior, placed third in the men’s 400 meters at the Ichabod Invitational in Topeka, Kansas. He clocked 48.07 seconds to finish among the event’s top competitors. Teammate Carter Diamond was 10th in 48.88, while Omaha senior Nick Abdalla was runner-up in the 5,000 meters (14:30.77) and Conner Wells took third in the 800 meters (1:50.04).

Additional highlights for the Lopers included a third-place finish in the women’s 3,000 meters by Stuckey (9:52.07), Robinson finishing second in the mile (4:58.59), and Lily Novacek winning the weight throw (59-10.50).

Nebraska-Kearney will compete next Friday at the Loper and Nebraska Tune Ups.
