COLUMBUS, Neb. - A southeast Nebraska man has died after being hit by a vehicle in Columbus.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened on Christmas Eve.

Authorities say 32-year-old Chance Becker of Utica had pulled over on the side of Highway 81 on Columbus’ west side and was checking his trailer when he was struck and killed by a northbound vehicle.

Law enforcement officials say visibility was limited by fog at the time.

Sheriff’s officials later identified an 84-year-old man from Columbus as the driver of the truck that hit Becker. There is no word on whether the man will face charges.
