SAUNDERS COUNTY, Neb. (WOWT) - The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect barricaded himself in a home south of Fremont after a 68-year-old man was shot there Wednesday afternoon.

SCSO said in a Wednesday night release that the victim, who was flown from Fremont Methodist Hospital to Nebraska Medical Center, is in stable condition after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the release, the incident was reported just after 1 p.m. Wednesday about a half-mile west of Highway 77 on County Road W. The call into 9-1-1 identified the suspect as David D. Jurging, 86, saying they thought he was still in the home.

Authorities used drones for surveillance on the residence, issuing commands over a loudspeaker.

After about 2.5 hours, Jurging was taken into custody without incident. He was booked into Saunders County Jail to face charges of using a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and tampering with physical evidence, the SCSO report states.

SCSO said Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Fremont Police, and Cedar Bluffs Fire and Rescue have assisted in the investigation, which is still underway.
