Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol have apprehended a 17-year-old and recovered a stolen vehicle after a pursuit in Omaha on Wednesday.

Wednesday at approximately 11:25 a.m., a trooper observed a Jeep Cherokee that had been reported stolen. Troopers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle in a parking lot near 30th and Ames Avenue.

The driver of the stolen car accelerated and fled out of the parking lot. The troopers pursued for several blocks before the driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. After about 30 seconds, the troopers were able to catch up with the subject and take him into custody.

The driver, a 17-year-old male from Omaha, was lodged in the Douglas County Youth Center for theft by unlawful taking ($5,000+), flight to avoid arrest, obstructing a peace officer, possession of marijuana – less than one ounce, and no operator’s license. The driver also had multiple warrants from Sarpy County.
