SCOTTSBLUFF -- Firefighters responded to a 6:30 p.m. Tuesday report of smoke coming from a residence in the 700 block of West 19th Street.

Engine One, and Engine Three responded with five personnel.

Upon arriving on scene, firefighters observed smoke coming from the home and reported a working structure fire; automatic aid was requested from Gering Fire and a second alarm for additional personnel.

The occupant of the home was located outside of the residence;  Firefighters were advised of several dogs in the home. Crews made entry and several puppies and a dog were rescued out of the home. One dog succumbed to smoke inhalation and did not survive.

It was determined the occupant was gone when the fire started. The fire started on the kitchen stove, where the occupant advised she leaves the dog food.

The home sustained significant damage and the resident  displaced. American Red Cross and Firefighter Ministries are assisting the homeowner with immediate needs.
