City Council approves interim Police Chief following Chief Ruiz’s resignation

KIMBALL -- The Kimball City Council accepted the resignation of Police Chief Jose Ruiz Tuesday evening, and unanimously approved Sergeant Jose Barboza to be Interim Chief.
Barboza said, “We have a good group of guys here. Coming in as interim, I just want to make sure we keep a solid structure, keep the lights on at the PD, make sure that we’re covering the streets, and make sure we’re there when people are in need – that's the most important part.”
Mayor John Morrison said, “I feel that he will make a great Interim Police Chief.”
After nearly three years on the job, Ruiz has decided to leave his position as Police Chief and pursue an opportunity as a lieutenant at the Sidney Police Department.
“I believe my experience and background will be better suited for a larger agency,” Ruiz said. “I am grateful to have served the Kimball community. I am looking forward to my future endeavor at the Sidney PD, which I start February 2."
