Small exterior fire quickly extinguished at Sidney home

SIDNEY, Neb. — Sidney Volunteer Fire Department crews responded to a reported structure fire Tuesday evening at a residence in the 2200 block of Newton Street.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 6:22 p.m. after a caller reported smelling smoke inside the home but could not locate the source. The resident shut off the furnace as a precaution before crews arrived.
Sidney Volunteer Fire Department Chief Matt Butts said firefighters located a small fire at the bottom of a back door. The fire was quickly extinguished, and damage was limited to the exterior of the home.
No injuries were reported.
Chief Butts said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Crews remained on scene briefly to ensure the area was safe and returned to the station shortly before 7 p.m.
