ALLIANCE, Neb. — An Alliance man was arrested Thursday on charges including first-degree sexual assault and strangulation following an investigation involving a juvenile victim, according to the Alliance Police Department.

Police said officers, assisted by the Box Butte County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol, served an arrest warrant on Derek Reyes, 40, of Alliance. Reyes was taken into custody without incident and is being held in the Box Butte County Jail.

Authorities said the arrest stems from a recent sexual assault investigation involving a juvenile. Reyes is a registered sex offender.

As part of the warrant, investigators also seized Reyes’ phone. Police said the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed pending the results of a forensic examination of the device.

No bond had been set as of Thursday, according to police.

Due to the nature of the case and the involvement of a juvenile victim, authorities said no further details will be released at this time. Reyes is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
