SIDNEY, Neb. - A Bridgeport man and his girlfriend spent Saturday enjoying a “treat yourself” experience after taking part in a $1,000 Shopping Spree presented by Sutton Home Gallery and 987 The Big Boy.

Nate Rahmig of Bridgeport, the grand prize winner, and his girlfriend of five years, Ashton Van Anne, were chauffeured throughout Sidney on Saturday by members of The Big Boy staff, visiting participating local businesses and spending the $1,000 prize.

Stops on the shopping spree included Sutton Home Gallery, Charlotte & Emerson Boutique, Sweet Ice, French Door Antique Mall & Creative Boutique, Highby Outdoors and Nexgen Outfitters.

Rahmig said he signed up for the promotion at two locations - Sutton Home Gallery and Highby Outdoors. He entered at Sutton Home Gallery while helping his boss, Collin Harvey, move a couch, adding that Harvey initially didn't believe he had won the grand prize.

Rahmig said his first call after learning he had won was to Van Anne, who admitted she was skeptical at first.

“I didn’t believe him,” Van Anne said. “I had to go to The Big Boy Facebook page and look.”

Throughout the day, Rahmig encouraged Van Anne to pick out items from several stops, though she was hesitant to spend his winnings. After making sure she had selected a few items, Rahmig finished the remaining budget with stops at Highby Outdoors and Nexgen Outfitters.

The $1,000 Shopping Spree promotion also awarded prizes to multiple finalists from across the region and was designed to highlight and support local businesses during the holiday season.
