NORFOLK - The Stanton Mustangs and Norfolk Catholic Knights faced off in an early season girl/boy doubleheader on Thursday night, with the Mustang girls picking up a 34-30 win and the Knights boys earning a 61-16 win.

In the girls game, Stanton and Norfolk Catholic were having a tough time on the offensive end, going through long scoring droughts and turnovers. After one half of basketball, the Mustangs led 14-4.

The offense picked up in the third quarter, with the Knights fighting back to tie the game at 15.

Stanton climbed back in front 27-19 after three quarters.

Norfolk Catholic continued to battle, but fell just shy of a comeback, falling 34-30 to Stanton. The Mustangs were led by Skylar Siebrandt's 12 points. Bergan Pohlman scored 9.

The Knights were led by Hayden Brummer's 8 points. Grace Kosch and Madison Gordon scored 6 each.

In the boys game, from start to finish, it was all Norfolk Catholic. The Knights got things rolling on the inside, mid-range, perimeter and in transition.

The Knights took an early 20-2 lead after the first quarter and a 40-6 lead at halftime.

Norfolk Catholic took a 40-point lead late in the third quarter to start the running clock for the remainder of the game and held on for the 61-16 win.

Gavin Schutt led the scoring with 16 points, followed by Brayden Kosch with 11 points. Josh Arens led Stanton with 8 points.
