Norfolk hosts State Play Production Championship for yet another year

NORFOLK, Neb.— It’s state play production time and Norfolk is hosting the championships again.
36 of the best teams across Nebraska are showing off their skills in Norfolk this year, with hopes to come out on top.
Visit Norfolk and Norfolk Area Sports Council placed a bid for a five year contract to continue hosting the event when their ten year contract was coming to an end.
Soon after the decision was made, preparations got underway and the hard work pays off.
“Well we actually start certain preparation back in October,” Activities Development Director for Visit Norfolk and NASC Stephanie Bates said. “We line up volunteers to help with various parts of the play, certain signage. We provide food for our volunteers.”
“Traci Jeffries, and the Norfolk Visitors Bureau, they bring in this army of volunteers that basically makes this thing run. And so it's really cool to see all of the little parts that everyone plays,” Assistant Director for NSAA Taryn Retzlaff said.
The Nebraska School Activities Association says the community in Norfolk brings a special energy to the championships.
The plays will continue at the Johnny Carson theater into Friday evening.
