SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. - Scottsbluff opened its wrestling season with a 47-28 dual victory over Mitchell on Thursday, winning five of the 10 contested varsity matches.

The Bearcats jumped out to a commanding lead early, taking five straight weights via forfeit from 157 through 215 pounds. Kaden Schneider added to the fast start with a 23-6 technical fall over Mitchell’s Trestyn Marcoe at 165.

Mitchell picked up its first points at heavyweight, where Wyatt Blomekamp pinned Scottsbluff’s Connor Malecki in 1:01.

Scottsbluff regained control with back-to-back wins at 106 and 113. Derek Pineda-Morales earned a 16-12 decision over Kallen Golden, and Oscar Brown defeated Brody Fuss 11-5.

Mitchell surged with two consecutive first-period pins at 120 and 126 from Yovani Jimenez and Drey Gardner, narrowing Scottsbluff’s lead.

The Bearcats responded with a win at 132, where Holdyn Quick pinned Malachi Bowlin in 1:49. Mitchell answered with technical falls from Tate Debus (138) and Gavin Cheek (144), but Scottsbluff sealed the dual at 150 pounds when Alyck Rodriguez pinned Josh Hazzard in 4:58.
