Rosebud man sentenced for failing to register as a sex offender

ROSEBUD, S.D. — A Rosebud man has been sentenced to just over a year in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
Lavern David Luxon Jr., 34, was convicted of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in 2017 for sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl. As a result, he is required to register as a sex offender and update his information within three days of relocating or changing employment or student status.
Luxon began supervised release in June 2023 while living in Rapid City and initially complied with registration requirements. However, in September 2024, he moved from his listed address and absconded from supervision. Authorities didn’t know his whereabouts until July 2, 2025, when he was located and arrested in Rosebud.
A federal grand jury indicted Luxon in July 2025, and he pleaded guilty on Sept. 3, 2025.
