OMAHA — Three police officers are injured and a suspect is dead following an incident near an Omaha gas station.

It happened Wednesday afternoon near the Quik Trip at 32nd and L Streets on the south side of town. Police officials say the officers’ injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Police held a news conference at the site of the incident. Our news partners WOWT report that Chief Todd Schmaderer said the man who died was a suspect in a shooting at a Phil’s Foodway, where a white man in his 50s was reportedly shot in the chest several times by a Hispanic man in his late 20s around noon Wednesday.

Schmaderer said officers were following the suspect when he went into the QT bathroom. The chief said the man began firing at officers as he came out.

The incident is still under investigation. Police say they will issue an official press release later today.
