KIMBALL -- Kimball Public Schools announced Wednesday the district has been rated Excellent for the second consecutive year on the Nebraska Department of Education’s 2024-2025 AQuESTT accountability system.

School districts across Nebraska are rated on a scale of 1- Needs Improvement, 2- Good, 3- Great, or 4- Excellent.

Superintendent Trevor Anderson said: “Congratulations to all staff and students for their efforts in helping us maintain this Excellent rating. It comes down to staff taking care of our students and doing what they need to do in the classroom.”

Anderson said one of the concerns with transitioning to a 4-day school week was if the teachers were going to be able to cover the same amount of curriculum necessary for the students.

“It’s good to validate what we’re doing in the classroom is working whether it's on a 5-day or a 4-day school week,” he said.

Kimball Public Schools offers additional academic support to the students through afterschool programs to ensure the students are getting the extra help in whatever subjects they need.

Anderson said the staff at both facilities “go above and beyond” for their students by staying after school or getting to school early to work with kids who may be struggling with particular subjects.

Mary Lynch Elementary offers the ELITE afterschool program that allows for students to receive any extra support they need as well as engage in meaningful activities that enhance what they’re learning throughout the school day.

The Jr./Sr. High School offers the Longhorn time, which is a structured timeslot after school for students to receive additional help wherever they need it.

“I feel good about where we’re at in terms of the support system that we offer our students at both facilities,” Anderson said.

He adds that one thing they continually focus on improving is comprehension and usage of vocabulary.

"That is always going to be an ongoing task for us to increase proficiency in that area, and increase proficiency in math,” he said. “The great thing about the staff and students at Kimball Public Schools is that we’re still working to get better.”
