Texas man arrested in 2023 Chadron bank robbery

CHADRON, Neb. — A Texas man has been arrested in connection with a 2023 armed robbery at the Chadron Federal Credit Union.
According to the Chadron Police Department, 31-year-old Robert L. Castellon Jr. was taken into custody in Edinburg, Texas, following a multi-year investigation. Court documents show Castellon had been living in Edinburg at the time of his arrest.
A Dawes County arrest warrant charged Castellon with three felonies - robbery, use of a firearm to commit a felony and terroristic threats. His bond was set at 10 percent of $200,000.
The robbery happened in May 2023 when a man walked into the credit union asking about opening an account. Court paperwork states he then pulled out a handgun, ordered the teller to hand over money and warned her not to look at anyone else. The teller complied, giving him $5,124, before the suspect fled.
Chadron police responded and gathered evidence at the scene. Although the suspect wasn’t located during the initial search, investigators reviewed surveillance footage showing both the man and his vehicle — key details that court paperwork reveals ultimately helped identify and arrest Castellon.
The Chadron Police Department credits the Nebraska State Patrol, the FBI and multiple Texas law enforcement agencies for helping in the case.
