SIDNEY, Neb. - Sidney fans heading to Lincoln for next week’s Class C1 state championship game will have a place to gather, and students will get extra time to make the trip.

A tailgate party is set for Monday, Nov. 24, at 6 p.m. CT at The Tavern on the Square at 816 P Street in Lincoln’s Haymarket district. The event is hosted by radio stations 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country with support from community partners, such as Hometown Liquor in Sidney.

The tailgate is free, open to all ages and will feature giveaways and a live broadcast the night before Sidney faces Wahoo for the Class C1 title at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:15 a.m. CT on Tuesday. The game will air on 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country.

Superintendent Andrew Farber announced Monday Sidney Public Schools will dismiss at noon on Nov. 24 and classes will be canceled on Nov. 25 to allow families, students and staff to attend the championship.

“To allow our students, families, and staff the opportunity to attend and support the team, school will dismiss at noon on Monday … and there will be no school on Tuesday,” Farber said. He encouraged fans traveling to Lincoln to “cheer loud” and travel safely.

The Tavern on the Square is owned by Sidney High School graduate Matt Taylor. Fellow graduate Josh Batt will also attend with shirt designs from his company, BBB Printing.
