Morrill County deputies arrest man driving stolen vehicle on Highway 385
BRIDGEPORT - A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Scottsbluff man early Sunday after Morrill County deputies discovered he was driving a stolen vehicle and had been revoked from operating a motor vehicle for more than a decade.
According to the Morrill County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle on Highway 385 around 12:54 a.m. Sunday for expired registration. The driver was identified as Gordon R. Hernandez.
Deputies conducted a records check and learned Hernandez’s Nebraska driving privileges have been revoked since 2012. He was arrested for driving during a revocation period.
During an inventory search before the vehicle was towed, deputies found drug paraphernalia containing trace amounts of a controlled substance.
Deputies were later notified the vehicle may have been stolen. After working with the Scottsbluff Police Department, authorities confirmed the vehicle had been reported stolen in Scottsbluff on the evening of Nov. 15.
Hernandez now faces several charges, including felony possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, driving during a revocation period, possession of drug paraphernalia and no valid registration.
The sheriff’s office noted that all individuals arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
