SCOTTSBLUFF -- Bluffs Middle School students were offered a close-up of snow removal equipment Wednesday.

The hands-on event was part of a contest to name the newest snow plows in the Nebraska Department of Transportation fleet. Bluffs Middle School student Cayden Finkey submitted the winning name for the "Name a Snowplow contest."

"The program is statewide. We put it out to all the schools in the state of Nebraska. said John Lutz, District Operations & Maintenance Manager with the Nebraska Department of Transportation.

He said entries from participating schools go the an office in Lincoln.

"What happens is we have a committee that breaks it all down across the state. Each district, which there's eight of us in the state, each district gets to pick two names off of the list from their district," he said.

Bluffs Middle School student Cayden Finkey said his first reaction when he heard his name called is it was a joke. His method of submission took a little time at the keyboard.

"I just ... I clicked on Google and picked the name that was the most intriguing," he said.

Teacher Margaret Hancock said Cayden is one of 16 winners in the state.

"I think its great. I think its a great opportunity for the state to be involved with the schools and for the kids to get excited about different things in our community," she said.
