SIDNEY – Sidney third graders marked Veterans Day this week with a special concert and a hands-on lesson in military history, thanks to a visit from local veteran Larry Nelson and his collection of uniforms used in the Veterans History Project.

Nelson met with students ahead of the program to discuss his service and explain the history behind the military uniforms he has collected over the years. The uniforms are displayed each year during the third-grade Veterans Day Concert, giving students a close-up look at the clothing worn by American service members from different eras.

Nelson also talked with students about the importance of honoring veterans, sharing examples of simple ways young people can show respect and support for those who have served.

The event was organized by teacher Mrs. Michelman. Students performed patriotic songs and presented a tribute to America’s veterans during the program.

School officials expressed gratitude for Nelson’s continued involvement.

“Having Mr. Nelson bring his mannequins and uniforms gives our students a unique opportunity to learn about the soldiers they represent,” the district said.

The district also thanked the third-grade staff and students for their work in putting on the concert, calling it a powerful tribute to veterans and a highlight of the school year.
