Geoff Fox, who served as News Channel Nebraska chief meteorologist for nearly 10 years, has passed away after a long battle with cancer. He was 75.

Fox was the first meteorologist at News Channel Nebraska and remained dedicated to the station’s viewers until his final forecast in August.

“Geoff’s combination of charisma and forecasting knowledge made him a one-of-a-kind TV talent,” Vice President of News and Content Michael Shively said. “Although Geoff broadcast remotely, he was as much of a Nebraskan as anyone in the state. He will be remembered by viewers for his casual and fun delivery and by his co-workers for his endless stories and deep passion for his profession.”

Fox beat the odds to survive an initial battle with pancreatic cancer. When the disease later returned and spread, he continued forecasting and living out his passion for as long as he could. His wife, Helaine, announced his passing on Fox's Facebook page.

"I'm sorry to say Geoff lost his battle last night and passed away in his sleep. All the thoughts, prayers and memories you posted kept Geoff going these past few months. He really was grateful for the connection he shared with all of you. As public of a life he lived, his wish was to be cremated with no fanfare. I will honor his wish... Thank you for loving Geoff. He really loved all of you, too."

Fox’s list of career accomplishments is lengthy. He worked as a broadcaster for more than four decades, earning seven Emmy awards. He built a studio in his garage to enable him to forecast weather remotely. Always interested in the latest technology, Fox coded and built his own weather maps.

“We are deeply grateful for Geoff’s dedication to News Channel Nebraska and our viewers,” Shively said. “Our hearts go out to his wife, Helaine, and his entire family. He will be missed.”

If viewers would like to share a message with Fox’s family, they can mail a letter to the News Channel Nebraska office in Norfolk. NCN staff will make sure the messages are delivered to his family.
