Nebraska’s Emmett Johnson and TJ Lateef were recognized for their performances in Saturday’s win over UCLA on Monday afternoon.

Johnson was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, while Lateef shared the Freshman of the Week honor with Mason Posa of Wisconsin. In addition, Lateef was one of eight quarterbacks named by the Manning Award as its “Stars of the Week”

It is the first Big Ten honor for both Johnson and Lateef.

Johnson was honored after accounting for a career-high 232 yards from scrimmage in Nebraska’s 28-21 victory. The junior from Minneapolis had 129 rushing yards and a career-high 103 receiving yards on three receptions to become the first Husker running back in school history to surpass 100 rushing and 100 receiving yards in the same game.   Johnson accounted for three scores, including touchdown receptions of 56 and 50 yards, matching a school single-game record for TD receptions by a running back and rushed for a third score. He became the first player in the Big Ten in at least 30 years to have more than 125 rushing yards, more than 100 receiving yards, a rushing touchdown and two receiving touchdowns in the same game. He is the first Husker to earn the Big Ten’s weekly offensive award since Anthony Grant on Sept. 5, 2022.

Lateef shined in his first collegiate start, returning to his hometown to guide the Huskers to their first win at UCLA since 1992. He completed 13-of-15 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns, as he completed his first 11 passes. The Compton, Calif., native also rushed five times for 31 yards. He guided the Huskers to touchdowns in NU’s first four possessions as the Huskers won seven regular-season games for the first time since 2016.  Lateef, who is just the fifth true freshman to start at quarterback at Nebraska since 1950, is believed to be the first true freshman in FBS since at least 1995 to have a game with a minimum of 15 passing attempts and less than two incompletions, 200+yards passing, three or more passing touchdowns and 30 or more rushing yards.  The last Husker freshman to earn the conference weekly award was Jacory Barney on Nov. 24, 2024.

With today’s honors, Nebraska is now one of three Big Ten programs that has had a player earn each of the conference’s weekly awards (DeShon Singleton-Defense; Kenneth Williams-Special Teams) during the 2025 season.

Jackson, Reilly, Choboy Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors

The Nebraska volleyball team collected three Big Ten weekly awards on Monday.

Junior middle blocker Andi Jackson was named co-Player of the Week, while Bergen Reilly earned Setter of the Week and Laney Choboy was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Jackson's efficiency was off the charts in Nebraska's 3-0 wins over Illinois and No. 22 Minnesota last week. Jackson led all Division I players with a .733 hitting percentage on the week, finishing at 4.00 kills per set, the most by a Big Ten middle blocker. Her strong weekend moved her all the way up to No. 2 in the nation in hitting percentage on the season (.449).

Jackson had a perfect game on Thursday with a 1.000 hitting percentage (9-0-9), along with four blocks in the sweep of the Fighting Illini. She followed up with a season-high 15 kills on .619 hitting with three digs and a block in the sweep at No. 22 Minnesota on Saturday. Before her first hitting error of the week in the second set at Minnesota, Jackson had killed 14 consecutive swings.

Reilly continued to improve her already strong résumé with a league-leading 12.33 assists per set and a .458 combined hitting percentage in Nebraska's sweeps. In addition to her 12.33 assists per set, Reilly averaged 2.17 digs per set and 1.00 blocks per set.

Behind Reilly's setting, the Big Red hit .488 against Illinois and .434 at Minnesota, which extended their streak of hitting over .300 to 15 straight matches. Nebraska's .488 performance against the Fighting Illini was its best since 2018. Reilly had 29 assists, seven digs, five blocks, one kill and one ace. She followed on Saturday at No. 22 Minnesota with 45 assists, six digs, three kills, one block and one ace. Her 45 assists were a career high in a three-set match.

Choboy averaged 5.83 digs per set. She had a career-high 20 digs along with two aces and three set assists in the Huskers' win against Illinois in which they held the Fighting Illini to a .095 hitting percentage. At Minnesota on Saturday, Choboy logged 15 digs with three more set assists.

Jackson earned her first-ever Big Ten Player of the Week honor after previously earning two defensive awards. Reilly was honored for the second straight week, the fourth time this season and 13th time in her career. Choboy collected her first-ever weekly Big Ten honor.
